since 1979
our family history
Jalisco Jojoba is a family-owned and operated farming company with a rich history spanning 3 generations of family members and decades of experience in jojoba farming.
Daniel Gutierrez came from Mexico in 1959 through the temporary worker program. At the age of 19, he started working in all different agriculture crops throughout Southeast California and Southwest Arizona. In 1962, he received his permanent resident card and later became a US citizen. Daniel worked in citrus greenhouses and citrus farming from 1965 through 1979 before starting in jojoba farming.
When the Gutierrez family started working in the industry, they began one of the first drip irrigation systems in Southwest Arizona for jojoba. The entire family would go out after school and work in the jojoba fields. Daniel, his wife Apolonia, and their 8 children would hoe weeds, repair drip tape, and plant jojoba.
Today & Future
As of today, the company is owned by Freddie and his wife, Silvia Gutierrez. Freddie’s sister Angela and brother Eddie are involved in the farm's everyday activities. Freddie and Silvia’s kids Juan and Alessandra are also involved in the farming activities. Founder Daniel is still involved in daily operations.
Jalisco Jojoba owns jojoba farms as well as their greenhouses. These greenhouses are used to grow selective jojoba varieties that produce the area's best yields. All our farms are certified organic through CCOF.
our mission
At Jalisco Jojoba, we have started water conservation, rainwater harvest, and desert restoration projects. Our family feels it is vital to put back to the earth. So, for us too, it is essential to do our part and put back some desert plants to help the wildlife in the area and prepare to conserve as much water as possible.
